The eighth edition of the rising California festival brings together 52 films, Hollywood talent, music videos, documentaries and screenwriters for three days of independent cinema, November 6 to 8.
The Yucca Valley Film Festival has unveiled its official 2026 lineup, featuring 52 films selected from more than 600 submissions representing 34 countries. Now in its eighth year, the festival continues to grow as a destination for independent filmmakers, bringing together established screen talent, emerging artists and audiences in California’s Hi-Desert.
The selection includes short films, documentaries, music videos and a dedicated children’s program, all taking place at the Community Center i the desert Town of Yucca Valley -and all for free.
Beyond the screen, 23 screenplays and their writers have been selected for official competition, giving writers a significant place in this year’s program. The films will play across a broad range of genres, from comedy and drama to experimental filmmaking, dance films, even science fiction and a Christmas movie.
Hollywood Stars Meet Independent Cinema
Several recognizable names from film and television feature in this year’s lineup.
Selene Luna stars and shines in Veronica, produced by Woody Harrelson, which opens the festival on Friday, November 6. Oliver Stark, known for 9-1-1, and Nava Mau, from Baby Reindeer, are the flaming hot starring duo in The Long Con, a desert set story blending crime, romance and dark humor.
The lineup also features Tatiana Maslany, known for Orphan Black and Marvel’s She Hulk, starring in the creative short film Next in Line – filmed in the Mojave Desert.
“Each and every film this year showcases the clear and sharp talent of the filmmakers, their crew, and their cast. And definitely, 2026 is a year when our lineup shows, loud and clear, the ambition of the filmmakers” explains festival programmer Matt Beurois.
Once again, the Yucca Valley Film Festival confirms its place in the festival circuit as a discoverer and promoter of films, backing its reputation with a wide selection that gives local audiences and festivalgoers the opportunity to discover filmmakers and stories beyond mainstream Hollywood releases.
A Platform for Filmmakers
The festival’s ambitions extend beyond screenings. With 23 screenplays in official competition, alongside music videos and documentaries, the event creates space for multiple disciplines within the filmmaking community.
Filmmaker participation is another defining feature. Returning alumni and visiting artists will have opportunities to meet audiences, discuss their work and connect with industry professionals. Media opportunities include the State Farm Red Carpet Interview Booth, supported by local State Farm agent Marianne Fenley, and pre-secured coverage through Yucca Valley TV.
The festival also has a strong connection to the surrounding region. Selected productions have been filmed in Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, Landers and other locations across the Mojave Desert, placing local landscapes and communities within the stories presented on screen.
Founded in 2019, the Yucca Valley Film Festival has earned repeated recognition in FilmFreeway’s Top 100 Best Reviewed Film Festivals. Its continued growth reflects an approach that combines independent film discovery with direct access to filmmakers.
Your Spotlight Is in the Desert
Your Spotlight Is in the Desert is the motto of the 2026 edition, and the festival intends to put that promise into practice. Its signature red carpet welcomes filmmakers, guests and members of the public, without the exclusivity often associated with Hollywood events.
The red carpet opens at 5 p.m. every festival day, and everyone is welcome to walk it for free. It has become one of the festival’s defining features, giving attendees the chance to experience the excitement of a film premiere alongside the artists whose work is being celebrated.
With 52 films, 23 screenplays and a growing roster of participating filmmakers, the eighth edition positions Yucca Valley as a current determining meeting place for independent filmmaking – in the backyard of Palm Springs, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
The Yucca Valley Film Festival runs November 6 to 8, 2026. Screenings and events at the Yucca Valley Community Center are free to attend.
