After his debut, it appears that Robert Pattinson’s Batman may have left Gotham City, as Penguin presents evidence that would point to that conclusion. Despite only appearing once so far, Pattinson has already established himself as one of the best Batman actors to play. The star will return for at least two more films to close out the Batman trilogy, with his version of the Dark Knight remaining separate from James Gunn’s new DC Universe. Director Matt Reeves wants it that way and instead decided to build other projects around Batman.
Before Pattinson returns in 2026 for The Batman: The Mystery of II. part, Reeves’ Batman franchise titled “The Batman Epic Crime Saga” has an exciting new chapter. The Penguin streamed by HBO has brought together a top-notch team anchored by Oscar winner Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb and Cristina Milioti as Sofia Falcone/Gigante leading the DC brand. Set immediately after the events of End of Batman, the series looks at the reaction of Gotham City’s criminals to the death of Carmine Falcone. The circumstances surrounding Penguin make it rather difficult to accept the premise that Pattinson’s Batman is still in Gotham.
Gotham’s Gang War Should Have Brought Batman Out

Michael of The Penguin focuses on the character of Oz Cobb who tries to seize the power left by the Carmine Falcone’s death in The Batman movie. In order to do that, Oz thinks it is time to use the two most powerful and loathed criminal organizations in Gotham against each other. It is shown that the hero provides the Falcones and the Maronis with half of the shriek, encouraging their complete brawl, which adds even more agitation to the city strained after Gotham flipped upside down because of the Riddler in The Robert Pattinson’s Batman.
As anticipated, the conflict involving the Penguin’s army was soaked in blood. The revenge of Sofia Gigante unleashed its full potential to the Falcones house as she gas suffocated almost the whole family, executed Johnny Viti with a headshot, and relocated to form a new mafia to vanish all foes.
As the Falcones and the Maronis went to war, the people of Gotham’s streets were strewn with corpses as bullets exchanged during daylight, prisons were assaulted, and Sal Maroni’s spouse and child were put to flames by Oz. Gotham, with its ever increasing mayhem with each passing moment, should have been attended to by Robert Pattinson’s Batman, but then again, he wasn’t.
The Penguin Midseason Trailer Reveals A Huge Gotham Disaster
It appears that the nearing end of The Penguin’s episodes will be bloodier and full of more action than it has been till now. Fans already had a preview of this in The Penguin’s midseason trailer. New footage from the set shows a bomb detonating in Gotham with Colin Farrell’s Oz cobb stumbling through the ruins afterwards. And with Oz battling against Sofia Gigante and Sal Maroni, who are in league now, more damage should come to Gotham other than just the bomb.
The Penguin’s violent gang rivalry leaves the people of Gotham City and their lives in a difficult position, so it is reasonable to expect that Robert Pattinson’s Batman would be required in that specific situation. The focus of the HBO show is about Farrell’s Oz Cobb, but the presence of the Dark Knight even for one brief moment to deal with the fact that ‘Gotham’ has decayed would be understandable.
Nonetheless, it has been already stated that Robert Pattinson’s Batman will not appear as Batman in The Penguin. The selection was defended by the director, Matt Reeves, who spoke to Screen Rant. The director further explains that the spinoff shows of The Batman are created to see through other character’s perspectives.
The Batman’s Ending Hints At Batman’s Hiatus
The scene after the credits in The Robert Pattinson’s Batman hinted the mental space of Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne. After most of the DC film being quite furious and embracing the title of ‘The Vengeance’ in Gotham, Batman definitely turned out to be a beacon of hope for hundreds of the citizens whom he saved from the flooding the Riddler caused in the city.
Now take a moment for a moment to ask what does it mean to be Batman? It would be understandable if Bruce went away for a time away from Gotham and focused on mystery-solving. After which he could return to the city as the most perfect version of the Dark Knight he was always designed to be.
Bruce becoming Robert Pattinson’s Batman is a result of him training and honing his skills around different places in the world. One could argue a similar take could be true for Pattinson’s Batman as well. The film proved Bruce was still slightly new in the superhero life which means with the desire to be a protector Bruce must have decided to take a step back so that he can work on himself. Further more, The Penguin was able to provide where Batman is. A prequel made for the series showed that For weeks Batman had not gotten in touch with Jim Gordon making it clear that Bruce really isn’t in Gotham during The Penguin.
